Cranky Old Lady

-Yes that is me... as well as the puppies.

The neighbor kids are setting off fireworks - and from the sound of it they are setting them off pretty close to the house. I left the JGs out while I was out and about. Apparently my 'scary' dogs were scared. I came home to them hiding in their boxes.

And really, I am cranky. I could do without these children setting off explosive paraphernalia every evening from 7-10.

Hot Time Summer in the City...

Or rather, summer in the country! We have hit our Mississippi summer stride - with humidity and heat everything else that it entails (including Smith Co. Watermelons). I had started working on a project around the house and was trying to keep up wtih the massive re-bedding of the house when I noticed that it just seemed really really hot. I blamed it on my status as a damn yankee and not being able to adjust well. After a few really cantankerous days I had a revelation -- it was cooler outside the house than in -- AC problem!!! Duh Sarah. Well, we had a few more duh Sarah moments, however the AC is up and running without major financial loss and only a few moments of 'wow am i clueless'.

During the times of heat we spent some time with friends -- turns out that Chin Master Chin the Chinchilla had the same effect on the JGs as Smokey the fat cat -- The fear factor. It was fun to watch them F-reak out over him.

Indian Elephants etc.

We decided to celebrate the official upcomming end of spring with a spring cleaning get rid of your junk white elephant party. The food theme: indian. Yummy!!! The menu was awesome.

In true White Elephant fashion we played the game where you steal gifts.... if the gifts are worth stealing! Some of the winning gifts included a mysterious indian head and a super combo: a toilet seat, a hot dog book and 28 all beef hot dogs. Oh yeah, one other rule -- all winnings must be prominently displayed in the home or the workplace for one month!!!

My winnings: Kristen's inflateable hangersm(circa 1950), a scarf, her grandmother's glasses, and the glasses case.

ETA: I meant to give Amber the credit on the party. She did the food and came up with the awesome idea in the first place!!

The Wild Animal park

We said goodbye to our visitors this evening. The Office was dog central.... and it was puppy madness!

Poor Madison has the little kids crate compared to the rest of the gang.

Roca Rocks!

For a Friday night treat Erin and I headed over to the new restaurant at the country club. Everyone who has been has spoken well of it. I'm hear to say it was fabulous and i totally reccomend going if you are looking for a nice dinner and don't want to wait an hour and a half at Rusty's. I was having a hankering for a steak, so I had the fillet. It was tender and delicious and amazing. You know that means something comming from my mouth. Erin's Tuna was pretty good too! Everything I watched come out of the kitchen looked amazing.

The decor was really nice too. I was never there when it was Monsours, but I understand it has had a total re-do not just a facelift. I really felt like I was in a real restaurant in a non-Vicksburg locale!!!

I've been to the new Monsours at the Biscuit Co., and I must say, I would take Roca's over it any day! I look forward to going at lunch and trying one of the pizzas out of their brick oven.

I leave you with these wonderful treats. If this doesn't sell you on it, I don't know how to get you to go!!

Cha-Cha-Changes

This afternoon, circa 3 PM

This evening, circa 6 PM

Notice anything different? I have disliked that shrubbery since i bought the house. It has been pruned down. Next step, removing that huge nasty clump of roots. I am happy to say that I've dealt with these shrubs and the holly out front before hitting my two year anniversary -- both of them were lowlights of the landscaping from day 1. Yay!!!

If you are going to fry, you might as well fry

Yesterday afternoon we took a road trip of sorts. We headed down the Trace in search of some good eats. Due to a late start, we didn't hit our intended target, the Lorman Country Store. Instead we made our way down to Natchez, a beautiful town down river from Vicksburg. We began our afternoon of fun with dinner at the Cock of the Walk -- a fun restaurant overlooking the river. It was fried goodness all around -- and if you are going to fry, you might as well fry. The cornbread has just the right amount of jalapenos and the onion rings were glorious in their fried goodness. Plus, how can you go wrong when you are served your food in metal feed pans and you drink out of aluminum mugs!!!
We learned that the cock of the walk was the best fighter on a flat-boat. we also saw some crazy scary fake topiaries. Apparently Kristen is our Cock of the Walk. Who would have thought?
After dinner we wandered down to Natchez under the Hill for a beverage and sunset. The river is still way high down there!!! Sunset was breathtaking, and picturesque. Eventually we made our way to another Natchez 'must do' -- Fat Mama's Tamales. We were too full after eating our own weight in grease to go for tamales, however we did take the chance to imbibe in some Knock you Naked Margaritas. YummY!!!
Note: Natchez is precariously close to New Orleans. You never know what type of signage you might see!

Fun times! Thanks for going and making the trip such fun times peeps!
