Ever exploring

We had a nice relaxing weekend that included some exploring around town. I enjoy how you can always find new things to see around the city and burbs.

We started out with a trip to the Three Rivers Arts Festival Saturday afternoon  It was a crazy day downtown - art, jazz, pride weekend, and beautiful weather. We parked downtown and mixed up the Three Rivers Heritage Trail along the Allegheny. The Golden Triangle side could still use a little cleanup and love, but provides great views of the North Shore. We moseyed around the bed at the point to provide me with my first viewing of the fountain! The point has been under construction/rehabilitation my entire three years here, so it was pretty exciting for me :)

We wandered around the art fair, supporting a few local crafters who had some cool work.

After the Arts Festival we headed over to the north side and picked up Saturday Evening Mass at a newer (yet not modern) church in Deutchtown. We finished up with dinner at The Park House - a neat little bar in Deutchtown. we grabbed a grouping a while back and wanted to use it. This place was cool- an old rowhouse style place on E Ohio street, with an awesome vintage decor.  The bar was original, with gorgeous tin ceiling and amazing woodwork throughout. They had an impressive craft beer selection on draft  (I had the 21stAmendment  Hell or High Watermelon and David had the Anderson Valley Summer Solstice and the Rogue Double  Chocolate Stout) and the food was Middle Eastern/Mediterranean themed with rave reviews online.I thoroughly enjoyed my falafel and potato letkes while David had an amazing smelling chicken sandwich.

While on the North Side we wandered over to Allegheny Center to pick up a missing geocache near the Children's Museum. For all my potential out of town visitors, this looks like a cool museum. Check out the artwork outside!

They had some other cool public artwork in the area - can you find David?? Ask him about this one and his days at the Water Authority!

We also got to see the first free Public Library in the US. Thanks Andrew C!

The night ended with our neighbors graduation party!!!  That was just a Saturday.

Kept it a little quiet on Sunday with yoga for me, grocery shopping, smoking a pork shoulder and some chicken wings for David, and some yard/garden work for us. Soon the pups will have a completes gate on the deck so they can hang with us out there at night, and the local deer are now blockaded out of our vegetable garden. They definitely ate our first tomatoes of the year before we could pick them and while working the other day we went to put some brush behind the garage and David had a staring contest with one for a good couple of minutes.  I ended the weekend with some quality hammock time :)

Beautiful day for a bike ride

Love the Montour trail

Bunnies by the trail!

Wild Turkeys by the side of the road on our way home.  Are we really in the suburbs here?

East Brownie Dam

Mock up of my project at our Engineering Cookie Table. Go figure ours wasn't the most festive table In the competition... Maybe because we were too busy working to make cookies?

Settling In

The move is going slowly but surely.  Downstiars has started to get organized and look like a real living space, as have my bedroom and the guest room - so we are ready for visitors.  Just don't peek into the 3rd room.  Its still a work in progress.

The JG's are getting acclimated to being apartment dogs - and D is LOVING having stairs.  They appear to be a favorite toy.  More updates to come in upcoming days.. particularly once I'm not borrowing internet.

Home sweet home

We are in the new apartment.  Lots of unpacking has been going on.  Lots to blog.  Not lots of internet access at home.  Details to come in a future blog.

Time for a dip

We've been walking by this fountain for two weeks now.  It was inevitable that we take a dip.  Daisy got a little warm and went in for a little drink... followed by a jump in.  Where Daisy goes Madison follows.  The rest is history.

2010 Stadium Tour Stop

I went to my first game at PNC Park this weekend. The list is now at: Old Commiskey, Wrigley Field, Minute Maid Park, Turner Field, Fenway, and PNC. I got to take in the park in all its glory during an hour and a half long rain delay. There were a few hard core fans out there. I don't get them. At. All.
During the rain delay they had  a text your message to the board thing going on.  My personal fave was "Clap if you Love Bacon".  That was far better than all the tween texts.  Someone also texted "Sarah is weird :c)". Hmm... Another favorite moment was watching the frat boys in the row in front of us tried to turn their poncho into a beach ball.  Classic hilarity ensued.

I also saw the infamous pierogie race!  We cut out at the top of the 7th, which was a good time since they lost.

Frick Park

It was a gorgeous spring afternoon so we headed to the dog park.  The dogs double deserved it since they didn't get much of a walk when I overslept this morning.  We went over to Frick Park, one of the three large parks in town.  Frick is more natural and wooded -- lots of rolling terrain that looks great for picnicing, trails, and an off-leash area for the quadrapeds.  JG's had  a great time.  It had been so long since they had played with other dogs that they didn't really play too too much with others. They were more interested in going sniffing without me pulling them back.  Whatever, it tired them out and they had fun!

Mt. Washington Mist

It was a gorgeous morning with gorgeous foggy mist on Mt. Washington in the distance as I walked to work today.

A walk in the park

We have taken lots of walks along the river front.

Today we scared lots of geese and goslinges into the water.  not exactly sure why???

We tired ourselves out and had a little sitdown at the Confluence of the the three rivers.

Daisy was so tired out when we got back that she flopped over in the hall waiting for the elevator.

All in all, a fun time!

Stegosauras and Sarah

Discovered while exploring downtown: 1 Shiny stegosauras
Apparently a few years ago they had a Cows on Parade type thing with Dino's going on around Pgh. That explains the T Rex at the airport!
