Buffalo

We went up to buffalo for football last weekend to watch Pitt vs UB. That's U at B, because the town has no interest in owning that university.... It was raining like crazy, but if their fans can handle two story icicles, a downpour won't stop them from tailgating.

It was crazy being there- the stadium felt like high school. There probably are larger stadiums at high schools in Texas :). They even had a set of bleacher that had never been day in and covered with adds - they were supposedly installed so the team could qualify for division IA. Not exactly a proud win, buy a win no less despite rain and 45mph winds :)

Parkside Candy

We started the weekend off right with a stop at an old time candy shoppe in Buffalo - the Parkside Candy Shop. My grandpa worked here in his youth and my mom and her sister used to visit the ice cream counter when they were little. It was super cool to touch on this piece of my family's history.

The store was amazing. The candy and ice cream looked delicious, and the inside still looked the way I imagine it did when Grandpa Bob was serving up scoops to pretty ladies :)

And yes, there is a sample of the sponge candy in the trunk.

Pitt Homecomming

We ventured into Oakland Friday night to enjoy the homecoming festivities with dinner in Oakland followed by a trip to the engineering alumni tent fr dessert and drinks. We ran into one of my coworkers there, because everyone really knows everyone in Pittsburgh. We finished off the night with 25 minutes of fireworks at the Cathedral of Learning. (Side note maybe if we didn't spend so much on fireworks we could charge less for tuition?)

This morning we joined a reduced size crew for tailgating with mimosas and breakfast casserole before watching yet another loss. Being a member of the Illini nation has prepared me well for marrying pittboy.

Still a nice fall weekend nonetheless.

No Santa Maria

Last Sunday we headed down to the north shore to check out the Nina and the Pinta. The Columbus foundation built replicas and they wander round the world, making their way up to the allegheny river. It was a beautiful day out and I was amazed to see how small they were considering they made voyages across the Atlantic Ocean!
